Effingham handed Charleston a doubleheader baseball loss in Apollo Conference play Saturday.

In the opener, the Hearts stepped out to a 4-0 first inning lead and never looked back in an 11-2 victory.

Ryan Sandifer threw 2.2 innings, allowing three hits, two runs, two walks and striking out two. Brett Koester came on to go 4.1 innings allowing three walks and striking out four.

Mason Hull had two singles, a double and an RBI while Cooper Jackson had two singles and five RBI and Brayton Poland had two singles and an RBI. Kendall Ballman added two singles.

EHS then took a 1-0 lead in the second contest and went on for a 4-3 victory in nine innings. The score was tied at 2-2 after five. Charleston moved ahead in the sixth and Effingham tied in the seventh.

Both teams had seven hits. Effingham was led by Hull with two singles. Sandifer, Zack Lee and Poland had a single and an RBI each.

The Hearts improve to 6-2 in the conference and stand at 14-2 overall.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony edged Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, 2-0 in Saturday action.

Two pitchers combined to throw a shutout.Colin Koester went 6.1 innings, allowing four hits, two walks and striking out nine. Dylan Guy came on for the final two innings, one on a strikeout and allowing one walk.

Bryan Wall and Jared Hoene had a double each for the Bulldogs who had only three hits in the contest.

The Bulldogs are now 14-2 on the season. Koester improved his pitching record to 5-0.

At Norris City

Altamont came on strong in the later innings to take a 10-7 win over Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Saturday.

The Indians led 3-0 until the sixth when NCOE moved ahead 6-3. The Indians pulled within 6-4 in the fifth then had a four-run sixth and a single run in the seventh.

Kaleb Whitt had two singles, a double and two RBI for the Indians while Alek Biggs added two doubles and two RBI and Jacob Hammer three singles.

Altamont then tallied a 17-2 win over Mount Carmel.

The Indians had 16 hits in the contest led by Noah Teasley with a double, triple and two RBI, Jacob Robbins two doubles and an RBI, Wyatt Vaughn with a single, double and an RBI, Dakota Kuhlman and Brayden Stuemke with two singles each. Stuemke had two RBI and Kuhlman one. Noah Kopplin had a double.

In a contest Friday, Altamont downed Cumberland, 7-1 behind nine hits.

The Indians were led by Kuhlman with a single and double, Kaleb Whitt with a single and double,  Robbins with two singles and Pemberton with a double and two RBI.

Cumberland was led by Cutts with a double and Filler with a triple.

Whitt picked up the pitching win, going six innings, allowing two hits, three walks and striking out 12.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis hosted Marshall and sent the Lions home with a 15-0 loss in five innings Friday.

The Wooden Shoes had a five-run first, a six-run second and a four-run third.

T-town had 13 hits, seven of those extra base hits. Ethyn Dust had a single, double and two RBI while Clint Weber had a single, double land three RBI. Jared Bloemer had a single, double and an RBI and Lee Hardiek a double and an RBI. Jackson Goeckner added a triple and an RBI, Tyler Runde a double and an RBI and Cody Jansen a triple.

Hardiek went four innings, allowing two hits, no walks and striking out five for the pitching win.

Teutopolis then traveled to Lincoln Land College in Springfield and claimed an 11-6 win over Pleasant Plains Saturday.

T-town had a whopping 21 hits in this contest. Hardiek had five singles and an RBI while Eric Kremer had three singles, two doubles and three RBI and Weber three singles, a double and three RBI.

T-town is now 15-4 on the season.

Dieterich fell in 10 innings of action Saturday to Cisne.

The score was tied at 6-6 in the seventh inning as Dieterich came from behind with five runs. But Cisne produced four in the top of the 10th for the 10-6 victory.

Dieterich had seven hits led by Derek Kuhl with three singles and three RBI. Cory Gephart had a single and drove in three runs.

Dieterich fell to Arcola 9-7 in Saturday action and claimed a 15-5 win over Martinsville.

South Central participated in the Centralia Tournament Saturday.

The Cougars fell to Waterloo 13-3 in six innings.

South Central had eight hits led by Daniel Roberts with two singles, a home run and an RBI and Trent Geiler with a solo homer.

The Cougars then downed Centralia 9-4. Centralia led 3-2 until the bottom of the fifth when  South Central broke loose with seven runs for the win.

Ryian McCown had two singles, a double and four RBI while Dodson had a single, double and triple. Matheny added two singles and an RBI.

South Central then downed Trenton Wesclin 5-1.

The Cougars banged out nine hits led by Geiler, with a single and double. The rest of the hits were spread over seven players.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and Neoga competed in the Tri-County/Shiloh-Oakland Wooden Bat Tournament Saturday.

WSS defeated Tri-County/Shiloh/Oakland 7-2. Owen  Bridges had two singles and an RBI while Dalton Armes and Emil Hartman had a double each. Armes added an RBI.

Neoga handed Tri-County an 11-0 loss in five innings. Caleb Hill threw a no-hitter with two walks and two strikeouts.

Drew Ramert had a single, triple and two RBI and Clayton Butler a a single, double and four RBI.

Neoga then handed Windsor/Stew-Stras a 9-3 loss. Neoga broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the third then added on three in the fourth and two in the sixth.

Evan Fritcher threw a five-hitter.

Caleb HIll hit a single, home run and five RBI while Butler added a double and two RBI.

WSS was led by Riley Walden with two singles and an RBI.
