Bulldogs Take Two, EHS Splits, Area Baseball Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony High School picked up a doubleheader but the Bulldogs did it against two different teams in baseball action Tuesday.
In the opener, the Bulldogs downed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 10-0.
Two pitchers combined to throw a shutout, Luke Ludwig and Joseph Kabbes. Ludwig went four innings, allowing one hit, no walks and striking out six. Kabbes finished out the game against two batters, allowing one walk.
Kabbes was the big hitter for the Bulldogs with a single, two doubles and an RBI. Bryson Wall added two doubles and three RBI while Austin Kline had two singles.
CHBC had one hit, a single by Chad Kirchhofer.
St. Anthony then faced Altamont and edged the Indians, 2-1.
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 first inning lead. Altamont tied in the second. St. Anthony then produced what proved to be the winning run in the third.
Adam Levitt threw a three-hitter with two walks and 12 strikeouts.
St. Anthony had five hits led by Austin Kline with a single and two doubles.
Altamont was led by Noah Teasley with a double.
St. Anthony captured a junior varsity win over Altamont, 6-1.
The Bulldogs held a 2-1 lead in the third then tacked on two in the fifth and two in the seventh.
Kayden Fearday had a triple and an RBI while Jack Hoene had a double and an RBI for the Bulldogs.
Dawson Guerrettaz had two singles.

At Effingham
Effingham High School split an Apollo Conference doubleheader with Mahomet-Seymour Tuesday.
The Hearts fell in the opener 6-4 in 10 innings. EHS held a 3-0 lead after two but M-S tied in the top of the third. The game went into extra innings and the Bulldogs tallied three runs in the 10th for the win.
Effingham had eight hits led by Zack Lee with a single, double and an RBI and Parker Seachrist with two singles.
In the second contest, the Hearts came back to take a 6-3 win.
The score was tied at 1-1 after the first inning but the Hearts moved ahead with a run in the second then tacked on another run in the third. Mahomet-Seymour tied the score in the top of the fifth but the Hearts tallied three in the bottom of the frame.
Mason Hull had three singles and drove in two runs for the Hearts while Ryan Sandifer had a single and double.
The Hearts are now 2-1 in the conference, 5-1 overall.
Effingham claimed the junior varsity contest 2-0. EHS scored single runs in the first and second and had only one hit.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg handed Flora a 10-0 loss in six innings via the 10-run rule Tuesday.
The Hatchets tallied four runs in the third then added on two in the fourth and finished the game with four in the sixth.
Isaac Kramer threw a two-hitter with one walk and 13 strikeouts.
Chase Thies had a single, two doubles and drove in four runs while Kramer aided his own cause with a single, two doubles and two RBI. Beau Bennett added a single and triple.

Teutopolis moved its record to 6-3 on the season with a 5-1 win over Robinson Tuesday.
The Wooden Shoes edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead. Robinson tied in the fifth. T-town regained the lead in the top of the sixth 2-1 then finished out with three runs in the seventh.
Drew Thoele hit a single, home run and had three RBI. Jackson Goeckner had a single and double while Luke Ungrund had a double and an RBI and Ethyn Dust a double.

Dieterich broke open a close game with a four-run fourth and went on for a 10-2 win over Newton Tuesday.
Newton held a 1-0 first inning lead and the Movin' Maroons pushed ahead 2-1 in the third before scoring big in the fourth.
Paul Thoele had three singles and drove in two runs while Callaway Campton had two singles and an RBI and Matthew Hunzinger two singles.
Newton was led by Wagy with a single, home run and one RBI.
Briar Schmidt picked up the pitching win, going 6.1 innings, allowing five hits, four walks and striking out five.
