EHS, Altamont, BSE, Newton Nab Baseball Wins

Effingham High School ended its baseball game against Dieterich in six innings via the 10-run rule Thursday, 15-5.

The Hearts took a 4-1 opening inning lead and led 10-4 after two. EHS banged out 18 hits in the contest with Mason Hull garnering four of those hits.

Hull had two singles, a triple, home run and finished with three RBI. Ryan Sandifer added a single, home run and three RBI while Cooper Jackson had three singles and drove in four runs. Zach Lee had a single and double and Brayton Poland two singles. Brett Koester added a triple and an RBI.

The Hearts threw four pitchers. Poland came on to pitch two innings, allowing three hits, two runs, two walks and striking out one for the win. EHS improves to 4-0 on the season.

Dieterich was led in hitting by Paul Thoele with a single, double and two RBI, Bryce McClain with two singles and an RBI and Matthew Hunzinger with two singles and an RBI.

At Altamont

Altamont took a 2-0 lead in the second inning and went on to down Vandalia 7-3 in action Thursday.

The Indians were outhit by an 8-6 count. Noah Teasley led the way with two singles. Wyatt Vaughn had a single and drove in two runs. Alek Biggs added a single and an RBI while Kolby Pemberton had two RBI.

Pemberton picked up the pitching win, going three innings, allowing no hits, two walks and striking out two.

At Altamont

At Pana

Brownstown/St. Elmo trailed Pana 1-0 after the first inning but tied in the second, had four in the third and two in the fifth for a 7-3 victory Thursday.

Lewis Brown threw a five-hitter with five walks and eight strikeouts.

Brown also had a big offensive side of the contest with a single, home run and two RBI. Wade Ireland added two singles and two RBI and Bryton Pruett had a double and drove in two runs.

It was the first win for BSE with a 1-4 record.

At Pana

Highland took a 2-0 second inning lead and downed Teutopolis 11-1 in five innings via the 10-run rule Thursday.

Highland had 11 hits in the contest while T-town committed two errors.

The Wooden Shoes were led by Cody Jansen with a triple and Eric Kremer with a double and an RBI. The Wooden Shoes drop to 4-3.

Neoga handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City an 11-1 loss in five innings via the 10-run rule at Toledo Legion Field Thursday.

Neoga tallied seven runs in the second inning, tacked on one in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Caleb Hill had two singles, a triple and drove in five runs for Neoga. Evan Fritcher added two singles while Trent Moore had two singles and an RBI.

Fritcher was the winning pitcher, going four innings, allowing no hits, four walks and striking out seven. Fearday came on to throw the final inning, allowing one run, one hit, one walk and striking out one.

CHBC's lone hit was a single by Mason Manley.

Newton handed Casey-Westfield a 6-3 loss in action Thursday.

The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the second inning then added on four more runs in the fifth.

Both teams had five hits. Newton's Jansen picked up the pitching win, going six innings, allowing five hits, two walks and striking out five.
