St. Anthony Beats South Central

Effingham St. Anthony played host to South Central in a high school baseball contest Wednesday and sent the Cougars home with a 6-1 loss.

The Bulldogs' Dylan Guy reached base on an error and went to second on a passed ball. Guy went to third on a ground out and came home on a dropped third strike against Joseph Kabbes.

St. Anthony led 2-0 in the second as Adam Levitt doubled, went to third on a ground out and came home on a double by Austin Kline.

In the third inning, St. Anthony pushed its lead to 4-0 when Kabbes singled and went to second and third on passed balls. Blake Niebrugge drew a walk and took second on a passed ball. With two outs, Colin Koester drew a walk to load the bases. Levitt singled home both runners.

South Central finally scored in the fourth when Ryan Matheny reached on an error and took second on a passed ball. With two outs, Aaron Patton singled home Matheny. Ryan McCown followed with a single and Daniel Roberts drew a walk to load the bases but the Bulldogs got out of the inning as Levitt got the final out on a strike out.

St. Anthony tallied two more in the fifth as Niebrugge drew a walk and Bryson Wall was hit by a pitch. Koester reached on a fielder's choice and Niebrugge came home. Levitt followed with a single and a sacrifice fly by Hunter Stephens brought Koester home.

Levitt picked up the pitching win, going six innings, allowing two hits, one run, three walks and striking out nine. Guy came home to throw the final inning, allowing no hits, no walks and striking out two.

Levitt finished witht wo singles, a double and two RBI to lead the Bulldogs.
