SIGEL -- Effingham St. Anthony and Sigel St. Michael will square off for the championship of the Class 1A St. Michael Baseball Regional after both picked up victories Saturday.

St. Michael claimed the opening game Saturday by pounding Neoga 14-0.

In the second contest, St. Anthony downed Okaw Valley 15-5 in five innings.

The Bullpups took a 5-0 lead in the second inning. Okaw Valley pulled within 5-4 in the top of the fourth but St. Anthony then pounded home nine runs in the bottom of the frame and pushed across another run in the fifth.

Levitt had a single, double and two RBI for the Bullpups while Stewart had a single, double and three RBI. Niebrugge and Sehy added a single and double each. Sehy had two RBI. Hoene had a double and two RBI.

Blanchette and Hoene combined for a two-hitter. Blanchette went 3.2 innings and gave up the two hits, five runs, five walks and struck out 10. Hoene went 1.1 innings and allowed one walk.

St. Michael and St.Anthony square off today at 4:30 for the regional title. The winner advances to the Neoga Sectional Saturday.

At Louisville

South Central and North Clay (Louisville) picked up victories in the Class 1A North Clay Regional Saturday.

South Central downed Dieterich 8-1 in the opening contest.

In the second game, North Clay defeated Oblong 7-1.

South Central and North Clay meet for the regional championship today at 4:30 p.m. The winner advances to the Neoga Sectional Saturday.

 

At Lawrenceville

Jasper County pounded Cumberland in the opening game of the Class 2A Lawrenceville Parkview Regional Saturday. Jasper County was a 14-2 winner.

The second game went to Casey-Westfield over Lawrenceville Parkview, 9-8.

Jasper County now faces Casey-Westfield at 4:30 p.m. today for the regional championship. The winner advances to the Teutopolis Sectional Saturday.

 

At Sullivan

Teutopolis opened Saturday competition in the Class 2A Sullivan Regional by blanking Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 15-0 in four innings.

The Wooden Shoes tallied four in the second, 10 in the third and one in the fourth. T-town had 10 hits led by Pruemer with a triple and two RBI and K. Althoff and Bushur with two singles and an RBI each.

Pruemer was the winning pitcher. He went 3.1 innings, allowed two hits, no walks and struck out two.

CHBC was led by Buzzard and Robertson with a single each. CHBC ends the season with a 10-10 record.

In the second contest, Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor downed Shelbyville 4-2.

SSW took a 1-0 lead in the third then tallied three runs in the fourth. Shelbyville scored its two runs in the seventh.

Kinkelaar and Dandurand had two hits each for the winners. Kinkelaar added an RBI.

SSW will meet Teutopolis at 4:30 p.m. today for the regional championship
