MORTON -- Effingham Junior High School finished sixth in Morton Millard Baseball Classic Junior High Tournament during the weekend.
In a Friday contest, Effingham fell to Coal City 13-3. Coal City held a 7-1 lead after two innings. The game was called in the fifth due to lightening.
Volpi and Eaton had a double each for the Mustangs. Volpi added two RBI.
In Saturday action, Effingham took a 10-8 win over Pleasant Plains. The Mustangs jumped out to a 9-0 first inning lead then had to hold off Pleasant Plains in the final inning.
Burgess had a double andn an RBI while Eaton, Matteson, Perry and Wolfe had two singles and an RBI each.
In the fifth place contest, Effingham lost to Pekin Edison 12-0. Pekin Edison had an eight-run second.
Burgess had the lone hit for Effingham with a single. The Mustangs are now 2-4 on the season.

Flora played host to North Clay (Louisville) and sent the visitors home with a 12-1 loss in five innings.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City fell in action Saturday at Vandalia, 6-3. The two teams were tied at 1-1 after the first inning. CHBC took a 2-1 lead in the second. Vandalia tied in the third then had a three-run fourth.
CHBC had five hits in the game led by Noah Hilvety-Southard with a single and double and Silas Buzzard with a double.

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor fell to visiting Okaw Valley 8-7 in action Saturday.
The two teams were tied at 1-1 after two innings before Okaw Valley tallied five in the third. Okaw Valley led 8-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh. SSW made a comeback bid with four runs in the bottom of the seventh only to fall a run short.
Wernsing had two hits and four RBI for the Hatchets.

In a Friday contest, Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor downed Effingham Sacred Heart 11-1. SSW took a 5-1 lead into the fourth inning then tacked on one more, then four in ths sixth and one in the seventh.
Stew-Stras/Windsor was led by A. Wittenberg with two hits and an RBI and Rincker with two hits.
Sacred Heart was led by Feldhake, McDevitt and Deters with one hit each.

The Shoes took a 1-0 first inning lead then had a three-run third, a two-run fourth and tallied single runs in the fifth and sixth.
Siemer was the winning pitcher on a one-hitter with four walks and one strikout.
Bushur had a single and double while Konkel had a single, double and an RBI for the Shoes.

South Central took a 2-0 third inning lead then added on two in the fourth, one in the fifth and four in the sixth.
Watwood had a home run and four RBI for the winners while Thompson had three singles and two RBI and Hilmes two singles.
North Clay was led by Dawkins with a home run and two RBI.
