Effingham, T-town Head To Division Play

Teutopolis and Effingham advanced from the Eastside District Baseball Tournament to Division play after weekend play.

In action in the District Tournament at Dieterich High School, Dieterich defeated Newton 4-1 and T-town edged Effingham 4-3 in competition Thursday.

In Friday play, Altamont defeated Dieterich 6-2 and Effingham pounded Newton 11-3.

In Saturday action, Effingham claimed a 7-3 win over Dieterich in loser bracket play. Effingham then won over Altamont 11-3. In winner bracket action, Teutopolis downed Altamont 11-3.

T-town and Effingham will play Friday for the championship of the District with a time to be determined. Whatever the outcome, both still advance to Division play.

At Shelbyville

Shelby County Junior Legion Posts 289-611-725 saw its season come to an end in District Tournament action at Forsyth Park during the weekend.

In the first game, Shelby County blanked Piatt County Junior Legion 10-0 in five innings. Shelby County tallied two in the first, one in the second, six in the third and one in the fifth.

Aaron Kirby had a single and drove in two runs for the winners while Camden Coleman had a single and an RBI.

In the second game, Shelby County fell to Eureka Junior Legion 5-4.

Shelby County held the early lead going out to 2-0 in the first, 3-0 in the second and 4-0 in the fourth. But Eureka came back with a five-run sixth to pull out the victory.

Dalton  McGill led Shelby County with two doubles and an RBI while Coleman had a single, double and an RBI. Kentrell Beck added two singles.

In the final game, Moultrie-Douglas edged Shelby County 3-2. Moultrie-Douglas held a 2-1 lead in the third inning then tacked on another run in the fourth. Shelby County scored its final run in the fifth.

McGill led the way for Shelby County with a single, double and an RBI while Beck added two singles.

Shelby County ends the season with a 10-16 record.
