Mt. Vernon Post 141 Beats Effingham, Shelby County Drops DH

MOUNT VERNON -- Mount Vernon Post 141 tallied an 8-3 victory over Effingham Senior Legion Post 120 in action Saturday.

Mount Vernon tallied five runs to open the contest. Post 120 came back with a run in the second inning. Mount Vernon led 6-1 going into the fourth.

Effingham's Bryce Lohman and Austin Kline had back-to-back singles and another runner reached on an error. On the error, Lohman scored. Another run came home when Brett Koester hit a fly ball to left and Kline scored. Effingham had pulled within 6-3.

But Mount Vernon came back in the sixth to score two more runs for the winning margin.

Effingham drops to 1-3 on the season.

At Shelbyville

Moultrie-Douglas Junior Legion downed Shelby County Junior Legion Posts 289-611-725 in a doubleheader Saturday.

Moultrie-Douglas won the opener 7-6. Moultrie-Douglas held a 2-1 firt inning lead but Shelby County came back in the second to move ahead 4-2. Moultrie-Douglas then had a five-run third. Shelby County rallied in the fifth with two runs only to fall short.

Shelby County was led by Aaron Kirby with two singles and an RBI.

In the second contest, Moultrie-Douglas won 8-6. Shelby County held a 6-5 lead after three innings. Moultrie-Douglas tied in the top of the fourth then tallied two runs in the top of the fifth.

Shelby County was led by Colten Reed with a double and Samuel Hagerman and Isaac Walk with two singles and an RBI each.
