Shelby County Junior Legion Team Sweeps Pair of Games

The Shelby County Junior American Legion baseball team swept a pair of contests from Decatur Pride Black over the weekend.

Each game was decided by a 9-8 score.

In the first contest, Shelby County took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Each team scored twice in the second, but Shelby County scored two more in the third to take a 6-2 lead. Pride Black made it a 6-5 game with three runs in the fourth, but Shelby County scored twice for the fourth straight inning to grow their lead to 8-5. It was 9-5 heading to the seventh, but Pride Black scored three times before Shelby County got the final out for the win.

Colten Reed got the win, going six innings and pitching into the seventh, allowing all eight runs, seven earned, before Aaron Kirby came on to get the final three outs. Reed gave up nine hits and walked two while striking out six. Kirby was perfect in his inning of relief, with one strikeout.

In the second game, Pride Black scored in the first, but Shelby County responded with four runs in both the second and third innings to pull ahead 8-1. Pride Black bounced back, though, with a run in the fourth, five runs in the fifth, and a run in the sixth to tie the game 8-8. Shelby County scored in the bottom of the sixth and held on for the win.

Samuel Hagerman pitched an inning, allowing one run on one hit, walking two, and striking out the side. Trenton Moore went 3-1/3 innings, allowing five runs on four hits and seven walks with one strikeout. Camden Coleman got the win, pitching the final 2-2/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while fanning three.

Shelby County Junior Legion is back in action tonight (TUESDAY) at 6pm vs. Decatur Black at Forsyth Park.
