One big inning was the difference as the St. Anthony Bulldogs defeated the North Clay Cardinals 6-1 Saturday to win the Louisville 1A Baseball Sectional Tournament. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.
The fifth inning was the only one in which either team scored. In fact, North Clay starter Brandon Repking had a no-hitter heading into the inning and retired the first two hitters. A walk to Ethan Greene was followed by an error on a ground ball hit by Bryson Wall. That set the stage for Bryar Jansen who homered to make it 3-0 Bulldogs. Repking then walked Austin Kline and Drew Gibson singled. Greg Utz then smacked a three-run home run and suddenly the Bulldogs had a 6-0 lead.
After Joseph Kabbes drew a walk, Repking was pulled for Ethan Burkett, who got a fly out to center to finally end the inning.
Burkett did what he could, pitching 2-1/3 shutout innings and homering in the bottom of the fifth, but St. Anthony's Adam Levitt closed out a complete game performance for the win.
Levitt allowed just three hits including the Burkett homer, walked two and struck out seven.
Repking went 4-2/3 innings, allowing six runs, all unearned, on three hits and four walks while fanning seven. Burkett was perfect, striking out one hitter.
