EHS, Dieterich, N. Clay, Newton Nab Weekend Baseball Wins

Effingham High School jumped out to an 8-0 first inning lead and went on for a 15-5 win over Flora in six innings of baseball action Friday.

The Hearts banged out 13 hits in the contest with six doubles. Hull had three of those doubles and two RBI while Bateman had a two singles, a double and three RBI. Beals and Lohman had a double and two RBI each. Koester finished with three singles.

Koester was the winning pitcher, going the first three innings, allowing two hits, two walks and striking out four.

The Hearts are now 19-2 on the season.

At Dieterich

Dieterich went nine innings before beating Altamont 4-3. The Movin' Maroons led 2-0 until the fourth when  Altamont tallied a run and then tied in the fifth. Altamont moved ahead 3-2 in the top of the sixth but Dieterich tied in the bottom of the frame. The game went into the ninth when the Maroons scored for the win.

Flach and Campton had three singles each while Campton added an RBI. C. Thoele had two doubles and an RBI, P. Thoele three singles and McClain two singles.

Altamont was led by Finn with three singles and a triple and Biggs with three singles and an RBI.

At Newton

Newton hosted Effingham St. Anthony and sent the Bulldogs home with a 7-5 loss Saturday.

The Eagles edged out to a 2-0 lead after two innings but St. Anthony moved ahead 3-2 in the top of the third. Newton took a 4-3 lead in the fourth but here came the Bulldogs once again with two in the top of the fifth for a 5-4 lead. Newton then tied in the sixth and won with two runs in the eighth.

John Grunloh had two singles and a dobule for the winners while Mtich Bierman banged out two home runs and three RBI. Mitch Jansen had a single, home run and three RBI. The Eagles improve to 12-7.

St. Anthony was led by Joseph Kabbes with a single, home run and two RBI and Gibson with two singles and two RBI.

At Shelbyville

North Clay (Louisville) handed Shelbyville a 3-1 loss. The Cardinals scored all three runs in the sixth. Shelbyville tallied its lone run in the bottom of the seventh.

Bloemer had the only extra base hit of the game with a double. Lovett had a single and drove in two runs. Burkett had the other RBI.

Repking was the winning pitcher, going six innings, allowing one hit, three walks and striking out 13.
