Effingham High School claimed an Apollo Conference doubleheader over Taylorville in baseball action Tuesday.
The Hearts won the opener 14-2 in five innings. EHS banged out 11 hits led by Sandifer with a single, two home runs and three RBI while Beals had two doubles, Koester a solo home run, Bateman a double and Ballman two singles.
Beals picked up the pitching win on a four-hitter with no walks and six strikeouts. Lohman came on in the final inning, allowing three hits, two runs and one walk.
In the second contest, the Hearts took a 2-0 first inning lead then tallied four in the third and finished out with seven in the sixth to end the game 13-0.
Lee was the winning pitcher on a one-hitter with two walks and six strikeouts. Koenig pitched the final three innings, allowing no hits, one walk and striking out four.
The Hearts were led by Bateman with a single, double and three RBI, Hull with two singles and an RBI, Seachrist with a double and three RBI, Meinhart with a double and an RBI and Beals with a double and an RBI.
In the junior varsity doubleheader, Taylorville won the opener 12-4. The Tornadoes had a five-run second and a four-run fourth. The Hearts had five hits, all singles by five different players.
In the second contest, Effingham tallied four in the top of the seventh for a 4-0 victory.
Poland had a single, triple and three RBI while Kalber had a single and double and Niebrugge two singles.

At Windsor
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged South Central 4-3 in baseball action Tuesday.
The Cougars took a 1-0 first inning lead and led 3-0 after four. Windsor/Stew-Stras came back with three runs in the fifth to tie the score then tallied the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
The Hatchets were led by Nic Hutchinson with a single and double, Christian Kessler with a single, double and two RBI, Chase Thies with a single, double and an RBI and Collin Ohnesorge with two singles.
South Central was led by Trevor Markley with two singles and Trent Geiler with two singles.

Teutopolis trailed North Clay (Louisville) 2-1 after four innings and 6-1 in the top of the sixth. But the Wooden Shoes rallied with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and three in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 7-6 victory.
T-town's Hardiek picked up the win, going the final inning, allowing one hit and striking out two.
Jansen had two doubles while Hardiek had a double and two RBI and Belleville and Kenter had two singles and an RBI each.
North Clay was led by Repking and Repking with a single and double each.

Newton took a 3-1 first inning lead on Neoga then held off a rally for an 8-6 win Tuesday.
The Eagles trailed Neoga 5-4 after five innings then had a four-run sixth. Neoga came back with a run in the top of the seventh only to fall short.
Bierman had a single, home run and two RBI for the Eagles while Meinhart had two singles and Grunloh two singles and an RBI.
Neoga was led by Hill with two home runs and four RBI, Fritcher with a double and Yurs with a double. The Indians drop to 5-12 on the season.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Brownstown/St. Elmo played to a 2-2 tie before the game was called after 13 innings because of darkness.
The two teams went scoreless through 10 innings before both tallied two runs in the 11th. CHBC had six hits and BSE five.
Grove led CHBC with three singles. BSE had six different players with a single.
