Effingham St. Anthony grabbed an early lead on its way to a 5-1 victory over Charleston in baseball action Wednesday.

The Bulldogs took the lead when Blake Niebrugge grounded out, scoring one run in the second inning.

Colin Koester earned the win, going five innings, allowing one run, two hits and striking out four.

Drew Gibson and Niebrugge each drove in a run. Greg Utz had the lone extra base hit with a double. Jacob Guy finished with two singles.

At Charleston

Altamont stepped out to a 5-0 opening inning lead and went on to blank Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 10-0 in six innings.

The Indians had eight hits in the contest led by Finn with a single and double.

Pemberton picked up the pitching win, going four innings, allowing one hit, two walks and striking out five. D. Miller came on to throw the final two innings, allowing no hits, no walks and striking out three.

CHBC's lone hit was a single by Kirchhofer.

Odin/Patoka came calling and downed Browstown/St. Elmo 15-6. O/P took a 2-0 first inning lead and trailed BSE 6-3 after four innings.

Odin/Patoka then had a five run fifth, a four run sixth and a three run seventh. Planitz had three singles for the winners while Smith had a s ingle and triple, Joliff two singles, Webb a single and double and Nix a double.

BSE was led by Dalton Denton with two singles, a home run and two RBI while Lewis had a double and Isaac Maxey had a tirple and three RBI.

BSE drops to 6-10 on the season.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged out to a 3-1 first inning lead and went on to beat Ramsey 11-4.

The Hatchets banged out 14 hits in the game led by Isaac Kramer with two singles, a double and three RBI, Christian Kessler with a single and triple, Dalton Armes with two singles and two RBI, Beau Bennett with two singles and an RBI, Chase Thies with a double and an RBI and Logan Greuel with a double.

Logan Greuel was the winning pitcher. He threw four innings, allowed five hits, two runs and two walks.

North Clay (Louisville) tallied a 9-3 victory over Fairfield in Wednesday action.

The Cardinals took a 2-0 first inning lead. Fairfield tied in the top of the fifth but North Clay came back with two in the bottom of the inning then had a five-run sixth.

Repking had a double, home run and two RBI while Lovett had a home run and drove in six runs. Blank had a single and double.

Repking picked up the pitching win, going five innings, allowing four hits, two runs, three walks and striking out five.
