Hearts Ranked No. 1 In State, Area Baseball Roundup

Effingham High School drew the No. 1 spot in the state baseball rankings and pounded Neoga 13-3 in five innings Tuesday.
The Hearts trailed Neoga 1-0 after the first inning but put together two runs in the second. Neoga then tied the score in the third and took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth. That's when the Hearts got deadly serious and brought home nine runs and finished the game in the fifth by the 10-run rule with two more.
The Hearts had 10 hits in the contest led by Bateman with a double, triple and three RBI and Hull with a single, double and two RBI. Sandifer had a single and two RBI and Lee had two RBI.
Neoga was led by Yurs with a triple. The Indians drop to 3-9 on the season.
Effingham improved its record to 13-0.

Dieterich finally scored a run in the third inning then brought home 16 more in a 17-7 win over Brownstown/St. Elmo in six innings Tuesday.
The Movin' Maroons were hot at the bat with 17 hits. Goedde had four doubles and three RBI while Flach had three singles and an RBI, Campton a single, double and two RBI, Niebrugge two singles and three RBI, Thoele two singles and an RBI and McClain two singles and two RBI.
Brownstown/St. Elmo was led by Brown with a single, double and an RBI, Denton a double and two RBI and Maxey a double.

North Clay (Louisville) edged South Central 5-4 with a come-from-behind seventh inning Tuesday.
The Cougars jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead and led 4-1 after four innings. North Clay tallied a run in the fifth to trail 4-2.
The Cardinals then broke loose in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the win. Aldrich had a double, home run and four RBI while Blank had a single, home run and an RBI. Repking added a double.
South Central was led by Geiler with a home run and three RBI and McCown with a double.

Altamont pounded out runs in four innings to blank Ramsey 12-0 in five innings via the 10-run rule Tuesday.
The Indians stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead, tacked on a single run in the second, two in the third and finished out with six in the fourth.
Biggs led Altamont with two singles and drove in four runs. Pemberton had a single and two RBI.
Whitt went three innings, allowing one hit, five walks and striking out seven for the pitching win. Kopplin threw the final two innings, allowing no hits and striking out three.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg continues to sail along by taking a 15-6 win over Cumberland Tuesday.
The Hatchets trailed Cumberland 2-1 after three innings but broke loose with five-run innings in the fourth and seventh and four runs in the sixth.
Both teams had 12 hits. The Hatchets were led by Dalton Armes with a single, double and two RBI, Derek Moshenrose with two singles and three RBI and Isaac Kramer with two singles and an RBI. Travor Quast had a single and drove in three runs.
Cumberland was led by Hayden Kanizer with four singles, Bryson Cutts with two singles, a double and two RBI, Alex Talley two singles and an RBI and Christian Grissom with a double.

Newton fell to Mattoon 6-4. The Green Wave held a 1-0 first inning lead but Newton came back to take a 2-1 lead in the second.
The Green Wave then tallied two in the third to lead 3-2. Newton tied in the fifth but, once again, Mattoon pushed ahead in the sixth then tallied two more in the seventh.
Geier led Newton with a single, double and an RBI while Meinhart had two singles and two RBI.
