The St. Anthony Bulldogs posted a 7-2 win over the Wooden Shoes Tuesday in high school baseball action at Teutopolis.
The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.
The contest started off with a bang as the first batter of the game, St. Anthony's Bryar Jansen, homered off Wooden Shoes starter Eric Kremer. St. Anthony added a run in the top of the second when Ethan Greene doubled home Brandon Puckett.
Teutopolis came back in the bottom of the second. Kremer singled to lead off the frame. When Lane Belleville followed with a double, Shoes Coach Justin Fleener sent courtesy runner Jared Bloemer to the plate, but a great relay from Greene to Austin Kline to Greg Utz retired Bloemer for an out. After a wild pitch moved Belleville to third, a ground ball by Jason Kenter brought home Belleville to make it 2-1.
The Shoes then supplied their own thunder in the third when Cody Jansen belted a homer over the left field fence to tie the game 2-2.
The game changer came in the fifth inning when the Bulldogs poured five runs across. Greene led the inning off with a single, followed by a single by Bryar Jansen and a sacrifice to move both runners into scoring position by Colin Koester. Drew Gibson then doubled home both runners to make it 4-2 St. Anthony. Greg Utz then homered to make it 6-2, and Joseph Kabbes made it back-to-back round-trippers to account for the final score.
Adam Levitt got the win for St. Anthony, allowing the two runs on five hits in six innings of work, walking three and striking out six with one wild pitch. Koester threw the final inning, allowing one hit and one wild pitch while striking out a batter.
Kremer pitched the first 3-1/3 innings for Teutopolis before having to leave due to the state's new pitch count rule. Kremer allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while fanning five. Conner Mette took the loss, allowing four runs in one inning. Collin Funneman pitched the final 2-1/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits and a wild pitch while striking out two batters.
