Bulldogs Win in Five, Area Baseball Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony High School played host to Robinson and sent the Maroons home with an 11-0 loss in five innings Tuesday.

The Bulldogs had a seven-run second. Greg Utz led off with a single. Joseph Kabbes, Ethan Greene and Jacob Guy all reached base on errors. Austin Kline drew a walk and Bryson Wall was hit by a pitch. Drew Gibson had a single and Utz, in his second at bat in the inning, had a double.

St. Anthony tallied four more in the fourth. Bryar Jansen led off with a single followed by a single by Brandon Puckett. Gibson had a single and Utz followed with a double.

The Bulldogs finished with eight hits including a single, two doubles and three RBI by Utz. Gibson added two singles and two RBI.

Colin Koester threw a five-hitter with no walks and four strikeouts.

St. Anthony won the junior varsity contest 13-8.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis and Cumberland went scoreless through the first two innings before the Wooden Shoes broke loose with a six-run third and went on to claim a 10-0 win in five innings.

T-town had only four hits in the contest, all singles by Wendt, Kremer, Belleville and Hardiek. Hardiek and Belleville had two RBI each while Wendt and Kremer had one each.

Belleville picked up the pitching win, going 4.2 innings, allowing two hits, two walks and striking out eight.

Cumberland's two hits were singles by Cutts and Talley.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg blanked Pana 8-0 in action Tuesday.

The Hatchets edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then had a two-run second, a four-run fifth and a one-run sixth.

Josh Overbeck pitched the win, allowing two hits, two walks and striking out 10. Nic Hutchinson came on in the final inning, allowing no hits, no walks and one strikeout.

Overbeck had a single, double and drove in a run while Collin Ohnesorge also had a single, double and drove in a run. Isaac Kramer tallied three singles and an RBI.

At Louisville

North Clay (Louisville) banged out 11 hits and downed St. Elmo/Brownstown 18-5 in five innings.

The Cardinals took a 4-0 first inning lead and led 8-0 after two. North Clay then had a nine-run fourth.

It was long ball once again for the Cardinals as they banged out four home runs. Lovett had a double, home run and six RBI while Bloemer had a single, home run and three RBI, Aldrich a single, home run and one RBI and VanDyke a solo shot. Blank and Repking had a double and two RBI each.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Lewis Brown with a single, home run and two RBI, Wade Ireland with two singles and an RBI and Caleb Atwood with two singles.

St. Elmo/Brownstown drops to 0-2 while North Clay improves to 6-0.

Neoga trailed Sullivan 2-0 until the bottom of the second then tallied six runs and went on for a 10-3 victory.

The Indians banged out 11 hits led by Drew Ramert with a single and double, Caleb HIll with three doubles and three RBI, Evan Fritcher with two singles and three RBI and Justin Yurs with two singles and two RBI.

Neoga improves to 1-3.
