BMD Beats St. A, T-town Splits DH, WSS Wins Two

BREESE -- Efifngham St. Anthony High School fell to Breese Mater Dei in baseball action Saturday, 10-6.
St. Anthony took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Greg Utz reached base on an error and came home on an error.
But that lead didn't stand long as Mater Dei came back with a six-run fourth. St. Anthony then pulled within 6-5 in the sixth as Brandon Puckett drew a walk and Drew Gibson was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Ethan Greene and Jacob Guy had back-to-back walks. Colin Koester singled and Bryar Jansen singled home a run.
Mater Dei then put the contest in the win column with a four-run bottom of the sixth.
Koester finished with three singles and an RBI and Jansen had a single and an RBI.
In the junior varsity game, Breese Mater Dei was an 8-2 winner. The two teams were tied at 2-2 after the first inning. Mater Dei then had a two-run fourth and a four-run sixth.
Mater Dei had 10 hits while St. Anthony had a double by Niebrugge and a single by Ludwig.

At Teutopolis
Teutopolis split a doubleheader with Salem Saturday.
The Wooden Shoes blanked Salem 10-0 in six innings in the opener.
Dust threw four innings, allowing one hit, two walks and striking out three to pick up the win. Mette came on in the fifth and went two innings, allowing one hit, no walks and striking out one.
Hartke had a single, double and an RBI while Belleville had a single, triple and two RBI and Kremer two singles and two RBI.
In the second game, Salem had a two-run third and a three-run fifth to pull out a 5-3 victory.
Salem had seven hit in the contest and T-town finished with four errors.
T-town had five hits, all singles by Hartke, Kenter, Jansen, Wendt and Bloemer. Jansen had two RBI and Hartke one.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed a doubleheader win over Mulberry Grove Saturday.
In the opener, the Hatchets ended the game in the fifth inning with an 11-1 win. WSS had eight hits in the game led by Derek Moshenrose with a single and double and Christian Kessler with two singles and two RBI.
Kessler picked up the pitching win in a three-hitter with one walk and five strikeouts.
In the second game, WSS claimed a 4-0 win in five innings. The Hatchets took a 2-0 first inning lead.
Chase Thies had a home run and two RBIs, Moshenrose a single, double and an RBI and Josh Overbeck with a double and an RBI.
Logan Greuel was the winning pitcher on a two-hitter with one walk and one strikeout.

North Clay (Louisville) traveled to Olney and claimed a 5-2 victory over the Tigers.
Olney held a 2-1 lead until the fifth then the Cardinals tied the score. North Clay then had three players cross the plate in the seventh for the victory.
North Clay had 11 hits led by Bloemer and Blank with a single and a double each. Bloemer added an RBI. Lovett had two singles and Repking two singles and two RBI.
Fleener picked up the pitching win going 3.1 innings, allowing two hits, no walks and striking out one.

Central A&M came calling and claimed a doubleheader over Neoga Saturday.
Central A&M won the opening game 3-2. The score was tied at 1-1 until the eighth inning when Central A&M tallied two. Neoga came back in the bottom of the frame to score one but fell short.
Ross Moran had a double for Neoga.
In the second contest, Central A&M stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead and never looked back in a 14-3 win.
Neoga had six hits, all singles by Evan Fritcher, Clayton Butler, Layne Andrews, Moran and Chase Lanham.

Hillsboro took the early lead but Brownstown/St. Elmo tied in the top of the second. Hillsboro came back in the bottom of the frame and finished with an 8-1 victory.
Isaac Maxey, Dalton Denton, Wade Ireland, Caleb Atwood and Bryton Pruett had a single each for BSE. Atwood added an RBI.
That was the season opener for BSE.
