St. Anthony, South Central Advance to NTC Title Game

Effingham St. Anthony and South Central advanced to the championship game of the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament after picking up victories Wednesday evening at Paul Smith Field.
The Bulldogs edged Dieterich 2-1 in a well-pitched game on both sides of the mound.
Adam Levitt picked up the win for the Bulldogs throwing a three-hitter with one walk and nine strikeouts. Paul Thoele suffered the tough-luck loss allowing three hits, no walks and striking out 10.
The Movin' Maroons took the lead in the first inning as Dalton Bloemer led off with a single. He was sacrificed to second by Bryce McClain. Bloemer took third on a single by Matt Goedde. He came home on a fielder's choice by Thoele.
St. Anthony trailed until the fourth. Drew Gibson singled and Greg Utz followed with a double scoring Gibson. Ethan Greene had a sacrifice, pushing Utz to third. Utz then came home on a ground out by Joe Kabbes with what would prove to be the winning run.
Altamont and South Central squared off at Evergreen Hollow Park and the Cougars pulled out a 6-5 win.
Altamont took the early lead with a run in the first and a run in the second. South Central tallied three in the third. The Indians came back with three in the fifth for a 5-3 lead but the Cougars tied in the bottom of the inning. The Cougars then scored the winning run in the sixth.
Both teams had six hits but Altamont finished with three errors. South Central was led by Matheny with a triple and two RBI, McCown with a double and Geiler with three singles and two RBI.
Altamont was led by Kolby Pemberton with a home run and two RBI, Alek Biggs with a single, double and an RBI and Wyatt Vaughn with a double.
In consolation bracket play, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg pounded Brownstown/St. Elmo 14-3. The Hatchets took a 6-1 first inning lead and never looked back.
WSS had 14 hits in the contest led by Nic Hutchinson with two singles and a triple, Issac Kramer with two singles and a double, Trevor Quast with a single and double and Derek Moschenrose with two singles.
Brownstown/St. Elmo was led by Isaac Maxey with two singles. Ricky Himes and Dalton Denton had a single and an RBI each.
In the other consy contest, North Clay (Louisville) easily outdistanced Neoga 14-4 in six innings.
The Cardinals pounded out 16 hits led by Jones with three singles, a double and five RBI, Aldrich with a single, double, triple and three RBI, Bra. Repking with a triple and two RBI and Bloemer with a double and two RBI.
Neoga was led by Yurs with two singles, a double and an RBI.
The tournament finishes out Friday with the consolation championship featuring Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and North Clay at 4:15 p.m. at Evergreen Hollow Park.
The third place game will begin at 4:15 p.m. at Paul Smith Field with Dieterich and Altamont. The championship game will follow at 7 p.m. featuring St. Anthony and South Central.
