St. A, Dieterich, S. Central, Altamont Advance in NTC Tourney

Effingham St. Anthony, Dieterich, South Central and Altamont advanced to the final four in the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament Monday.

St. Anthony blanked Brownstown/St. Elmo 10-0 in six innings behind the no-hitter thrown by Colin Koester, Adam Levitt and Brandon Puckett. Koester picked up the win allowing one walk and striking out three. Levitt came on in the third and went two innings, allowing no walks and striking out five. Puckett went the final two innings, allowing one walk and striking out one.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead then tacked on two in the second and one in the fourth. They finished out the game in the sixth with five runs.

Bryar Jansen had a single, double, triple and one RBI for the winners. Greg Utz had a single, two doubles and three RBI. Drew Gibson added two singles and two RBI.

In game three, Dieterich edged Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 4-3. WSS took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Dieterich tied in the third and took a 2-1 lead in the fifth. The Movin' Maroons then tallied two more in the top of the seventh. The Hachets mounted a rally with two runs in the bottom of the seventh but fell short.

Dieterich had six hits led by Devin Flach and Paul Thoele with two singles each. Flach added an RBI.

Christian Kessler led WSS with two doubles and two RBI.

In the fourth contest, South Central downed North Clay (Louisville) 4-1. The Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the first and tallied single runs in the third and fifth. North Clay scored its lone run in the seventh.

South Central had seven hits led by Blomberg with two singles and an RBI. Matheny claimed the pitching win on a three-hitter with three walks and four strikeouts.

Altamont downed Neoga 5-2 in the fifth contest. Altamont had a four-run fourth inning after both teams went scoreless through the first three innings.

Neoga scored its two in the sixth.

Altamont had six hits led by Kaleb Whitt with a single, double and an RBI and Jake Finn with a double.

Moore led Neoga with two singles.

The tournament continues Wednesday with St. Anthony taking on Dieterich at Paul Smith Field at 7 p.m. and South Central facing Altamont at 7 p.m. at Evergreen Hollow Park. In the consolation bracket, Brownstown/St. Elmo squares off against Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 4:15 p.m. at Paul Smith Field and North Clay facing Neoga at 4:15 p.m. at Evergreen Hollow Park.
