Effingham Junior High School moved into the championship game of the Class 3A Effingham Baseball Regional Saturday with a victory.

The Mustangs defeated Tolono Unity 9-2. Unity took a 2-0 first inning lead but Effingham came back with a run in the second, three in the third, two in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Fielitz had two singles, a triplel and three RBI while Cunningham had a double.

N. Thompson picked up the pitching win, going three innings, allowing five hits, two runs, two walks and striking out five. Lee came on to throw three innings, allowing no hits, two walks and striking out six. Loy pitched the final inning allowing no hits, no walks and striking out three.

Effingham is now 11-6 and will face Charleston at 4 p.m. today for the regional championship.

Charleston won over Mattoon 12-3.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony will play for the championship of its own Class 1A Regional after downing Palestine Saturday.

The Bullpups took a 7-2 victory. Palestine led 2-0 in the first inning. St. Anthony came back with four runs in the third then tallied three in the fifth.

Walsh had a double and an RBI and Link a double for St. Anthony. Antrim had two singles and an RBI.

Antrim was the winning pitcher on a three-hitter with four walks and seven strikeouts. Mendella came in to pitch the final inning, allowing no hits, no walks and striking out one.

Dieterich captured the second game over Oblong 11-1.

St. Anthony and Dieterich meet for the championship today at 4:30 p.m.

Cancellations

The Class 1A Sigel St. Michael Regional was postponed from Saturday to today.

St. Michael will meet Findlay Okaw Valley at 4 followed by Neoga taking on Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor at 6. The championship will be held Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

The Class 2A Teutopolis Regional was postponed. T-town will face Altamont today at 4:30 p.m. The North Clay (Louisville) vs. Brownstown/St. Elmo game will be held Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

The championship is scheduled for Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

The Class 2A Shelbyville Moulton Regional was postponed.

Cumberland will meet Casey-Westfield at 4:30 p.m. today while the Sullivan vs. Shelbyville Moulton game will take place Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

The championship is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
