Bulldogs Nab North Clay Tourney Title

LOUISVILLE -- Effingham St. Anthony High School picked up two victories Saturday to win the North Clay (Louisville) Cardinal Classic Baseball Tournament.

The Bulldogs opened with a 15-1 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in five innings. St. Anthony edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then had a 10-run second and tallied four more in the fourth.

St. Anthony had the big guns firing with five extra base hits. Bryar Jansen hit a home run and had two RBI while Greg Utz hit two singles, a home run and drove in four runs. Drew Gibson had a single, double and three RBI, Bryson Wall a single, double and two RBI and Jacob Guy a double and an RBI. Austin Kline contributed two singles.

CHBC had a home run from Grove and an RBI.

Colin Koester pitched a three-hitter with one walk and four strikeouts.

In the second game, St. Anthony edged North Clay 7-6. The Bulldogs held a 2-0 first inning lead and pushed that to 3-0 in the fourth and 5-0 in the fifth.

The Cardinals came back with a six-run sixth to take the lead. But the Bulldogs tied the score and then tallied the winning run in the bottom of the sixth.

Gibson had a double and drove in two runs for the Bulldogs.

North Clay was led by Aldrich with a double and an RBI.

In a Friday game, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed a 3-0 win over North Clay (Louisville).

Derek Moschenrose threw a two-hitter with two walks and nine strikeouts. Chase Thies hit a solo home run for the Hatchets. Nic Hutchinson added two singles.

Reese Blank and Michael Lovett had the two singles for Cardinals.
