Junior High Baseball -- September 6

MATTOON -- Effingham Junior High captured an 8-2 victory over Mattoon in baseball play Tuesday.

Mattoon held a 1-0 lead after two innings but the Mustangs scored three in the third, then tallied one in the fifth and two in the sixth and seventh innings.

Loy pitched a four-hitter with three walks and three strikeouts.

Wolfe had a single, home run and one RBI for the Mustangs while Lee had two singles, a home run and three RBI. Loy had two singles and an RBI. EJHS is now 9-5.

Effingham also won the B game, 2-1.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City outlasted Effingham Sacred Heart 15-11.

CHBC held a 11-2 lead after three innings but Sacred Heart tallied five in the fourth and finished out with three in the seventh but couldn't overcome those first innings.

CHBC was led in hitting by Radloff with a single, two doubles and four RBI, Manley with three singles and two RBI and Schlanser with a double.

Sacred Heart was led by Zerrusen with a single and double, Buenker with a single, double and an RBI and Frauli with two singles and an RBI.

Altamont broke a 0-0 first inning tie with a seven-run second and went on to trounce Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor 16-0 in five innings.

Winn pitched a no-hitter. Altamont was led in hitting by Baucum with a single, home run and three RBI, Cripe with two singles and two RBI, Abendroth with a home run and three RBI, Reardon with two singles, a double and an RBI and Frost with two singles and an RBI.

Altamont is now 6-9 on the season.

The Shoes had 11 hits in the contest and was aided by 11 Sullivan errors. Addis had a single, double and two RBI while Bushur had a single, double and two RBI, Wermert two singles and an RBI and Deters with three singles and four RBI.

North Clay (Louisville) pushed into a 4-3 lead in three innings then had a three-run fourth and a three-run seventh for a 10-3 victory over Dieterich.

North Clay had 12 hits led by Weidner and Fleener with a single, double and an RBI each and Zimmerman and Ingram with two singles and two RBI each.

Dieterich was led by Will, Hunzinger and Kuhl with a single each.
