MATTOON -- Effingham St. Anthony Junior High School competed in the Mattoon Baseball Tournament Saturday and suffered a loss and captured a victory.
St. Anthony fell to Mattoon 11-5. The Bullpups held a 5-3 lead until the fourth when Mattoon pushed ahead 6-5 and never looked back.
St. Anthony had seven hits led by Reardon with a single, home run and three RBI and Moore with two singles.
The Bullpups downed Urbana 9-2. St. Anthony stepped out to a 5-1 first inning lead and had a four-run second inning.
Moore had two singles and drove in three runs for the Bullpups. Mendella had a double and three RBI while Walsh and Wiedman had two singles and an RBI each.

North Clay (Louisville) picked up a 12-1 win over Salem in action Saturday.
North Clay banged out 15 hits in the contest led by Clifton with a single, two doubles and two RBI, Wiedner with a single, double and an RBI, Ingram with two singles and two RBI, Burkett with two singles and Zimmerman with a double.

Dieterich claimed first place in the Altamont Opening Day Baseball Tournament Saturday. Dieterich finished with a 3-0 record.
