Jasper County Opens Ohio Valley Regional With Two Wins

Jasper County was the 12-year-old State champion.

The Jasper County 12-year-old baseball team headed to the Ohio Valley Regional Thursday and is a member of Pool 2 along with Vincennes, Ind., Buffalo, West Virginia and Barren County, Ky.

In Pool 1 are Hammond, Ind., Bay Port, Wis., Fairfield, Ohio and Germantown, Ky. In Pool 3 are Mooresville, Ind., Cedar Lake, Ind., Southeast Lexington, Ky. and Mattoon.

Pool play began Thursday morning and will run through Friday.

Jasper County pounded Buffalo, West Virginia 17-2 in the first game and came back to beat Barren County, Ky. 11-1.

In other pool play, Bay Port beat Fairfield 8-6, Vincennes beat Buffalo 11-1, Mooresville beat Mattoon 16-0, SE Lexington beat Mooresville 8-0, Hammond beat Germantown 6-5 in nine innings, SE Lexington beat Cedar Lake 11-1 and Hammond beat Fairfield 3-2.

In POol 1, Hammond has a 2-0 record while Bay Port is 1-0, Germantown 0-1 and Fairfield 0-2. In Pool 2, Jasper County is 2-0, Vincennes 1-0, Barren County 0-1 and Buffalo 0-2. In Pool e, SE Lexington is 2-0, Mooresville 1-1, Mattoon 0-1 and Cedar Lake 0-1.

In Friday action, Jasper County faces Vincennes, Ind. at 1:30 p.m. to finish out pool play.

The tourney continues Saturday and ends Sunday.
