Teutopolis Post 924 Captures Senior Legion Tourney Title

Teutopolis Post 924 didn't let any grass grow under its collective feet in taking an 11-0 win over Effingham Post 120 in the championship game of the Senior Legion District Baseball Tournament Tuesday evening.

T-town stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead, tacked on three more in the second, one in the third and finished out with four in the fourth to end the game in seven innings.

Devon Smith got the win for Teutopolis throwing seven shutout innings. He struck out six, walked one and gave up four hits.

Smith, Brant Bueker and Cody Jansen combined for five hits and five RBI. T-town took the 3-0 first inning lead on two singles. T-town increased its lead in the second as a double by Smith ignited the offense scoring Brock Bueker. That was followed up by John Kreke's single, bringing home Jacob Roepke and Smith.

Smith had a single, double and two RBI while Kreke had two singles and two RBI and Jansen a single and double. Brant Bueker hit a home run and drove in three. Teutopolis now moves on to Division Tournament action.

Effingham had singles from Bryar Jansen, Blake White, Zach Bateman and Nick Miller.

"The team would like to thank the Effingham Post 120 American Legion and all those who helped to provide the opportunity for the players to participate in a game they love," said Dave Woltman. "I would especially like to thank the players who have played baseball with great enjoyment and hustle, while representing the Effingham Post 120 with class.  In addition, I would also like to recognize and thank assistant coach Charlie White for his commitment to the players and his knowledge and direction in the game of baseball."

Effingham finishes at 20-11 on the season.
