Chad Green was headed back to the minors Saturday, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to stay there very long.

The Yankees recalled righthander Nick Goody from Triple-A before Saturday’s game, optioning Green back to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following his tough start Friday night in which he allowed seven runs over 4.1 innings.

Green’s demotion isn’t a sure sign that he won’t make another start for the Yankees, however. Girardi said Green will make his next start at Triple-A during the major-league All-Star break, leaving open the possibility that he could be brought back after his 10 days are up to start again for the Yankees.

“Greeny going down is to keep him going more than how he pitched (Friday) night,” Girardi said. “Is there room for improvement? Yes. Is there room for more consistency? Yes. But to have him sit around and do nothing, we didn’t think it made a lot of sense.”

Michael Pineda, CC Sabathia and Masahiro Tanaka are slated to pitch the first three games against the Red Sox next weekend after the break.
