Former EIU Players Active in Pro Baseball

CHARLESTON, Ill. – As baseball leagues across the nation get set to head into All-Star breaks, Eastern Illinois baseball currently has three alumni active as professional players and five former Panthers that are active in professional baseball coaching.
Zach Borenstein is in his sixth professional season currently playing for the Reno Aces, a Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Borenstein is hitting .274 in 74 games with 15 doubles and 38 RBI.
Jason Scholl is in his first season playing for the Gateway Grizzlies, a member of the Independent Frontier League, after playing for the Panthers this past season. Scholl signed with the club in early June and has appeared in seven games this season with one double, one home run and seven RBI.
Matt Wivinis recently signed to pitch with the Evansville Otters of the Independent Frontier League. Wivinis was a member of the Panthers pitching staff this past season.
On the coaching side three former Panthers are currently on Major League Baseball staffs. Tim Bogar is the bench coach for the Seattle Mariners. Kevin Seitzer is the hitting coach for the Atlanta Braves. Derek Johnson is the pitching coach for the Milwaukee Brewers.
Kyle Haines is in his second season as the manager of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, a member of the Short Season A Northwest League and affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. His brother Andy Haines, a former minor league manager, is in his first season as the Minor League Hitting Instructor for the Chicago Cubs.
