T-town Finishes in Top Four in Firecracker Classic, Shelby Co. Falls Twice

Teutopolis Post 924 finished in the top four at the Mattoon Junior Legion Firecracker Baseball Classic during the weekend.

In Friday competition, T-town fell to Charleston Post 93, 3-2. Teutopolis came back with a 6-1 win over Moline.

In Saturday play, T-town blanked Macon County Gold 9--0 then held Danville Blue scoreless with an 8-0 victory.

That put T-town into the semifinals Sunday against Paris Post 211. T-town fell to Paris 6-0 to end its tournament stay.

Toledo Post 764 lost to Mattoon Blue Post 88 7-3 in Friday play and dropped a 4-3 decision to Paris Post 211.

In Saturday action, Toledo won over Piatt County 9-6 but lost to Macon County Black 13-0 to finish the tourney.

Danville Gold beat Mattoon Red 9-6 to also advance to the title contest. Paris then defeated Danville Gold 10-6 for the tournament championship.

Shelby County Junior Legion Posts 289-611-725 fell to Moultrie-Douglas Junior Legion 9-1 in action Saturday.

The score was tied at 1-1 after the first inning before Moultrie-Douglas pushed ahead 3-1 after two then had a five-run fourth.

Shelby County had one hit, a single by Hutson Dickens.

In the second game, Danville Post 210 claimed a 9-1 win over Shelby County. Danville held a 3-1 first inning lead and had three-run innings in the third and fourth. That ended Shelby County's stay at the tourney.

Shelby County had three hits, all singles by Kentrell Beck, Dickens and Carson Rece Pullen.
