Shelby County Loses Twice at Mattoon Tourney

The Shelby County American Legion Junior Team suffered two losses Friday at the Firecracker Junior Tournament in Mattoon.

Rantoul downed Shelby County 10-1 in a six-inning game, while Mattoon Red downed Shelby County 8-0 in a four-inning game. Shelby County was held hitless in the second game, while scratching out just two hits in the opener.

Hayden Francisco took the loss in the first game, allowing all 10 runs, eight earned, on 11 hits and no walks in 4-1/3 innings. Francisco struck out five. Beau Bennett got the last two outs, walking two and fanning one.

Kentrell Beck and Hutson Dickens each singled for Shelby County, and Samuel Hagerman drove in Carson Rece Pullen for the only Shelby County run.

Colten Reed took the loss in the second game, allowing seven runs on nine hits and a walk in three innings of work. Camden Coleman gave up an unearned run on one hit.
