Effingham, Teutopolis Senior Legion Teams Split

Effingham Post #120 and Teutopolis Post #924 split a senior legion baseball doubleheader Friday night at Teutopolis. Post #924 won the opener 4-2, while Post #120 won the nightcap 8-4.

In the opener, Teutopolis scored four times in the first inning and made those runs stand up. Effingham scored in the fifth and seventh innings. Effingham outhit T-Town 5-4, but were plagued by six errors.

Devin Smith got the win for Teutopolis, allowing one unearned run on two hits and two walks in six innings of work, fanning seven. Jason Kenter pitched the final inning, allowing a run on three hits while registering a strikeout. Colby Utz took the loss for Effingham, going the distance and giving up just one earned run on four hits. Utz didn't walk a batter and struck out two.

John Kreke delivered the big hit for Teutopolis, a two-run single that scored Jacob Roepke and Brock Mette. Carson Hartke singled in Devin Smith and Dylan Bloemer drove in Kreke with the final run of the inning. Mette, Smith, Kreke and Hartke had the four hits for Teutopolis.

Reid Kocher tripled and doubled for Effingham and drove in a run, Bryar Jansen singled and scored, Lane Koenig singled and drove in a run, Blake White walked and scored, and Brandon Puckett walked and singled.

In the nightcap, Effingham scored in the third and scored the lead to 3-0 in the fifth. Teutopolis got on the board in the sixth, but Effingham scored five times in the seventh. Teutopolis scored three in the bottom of the seventh, but Effingham held on for the win.

Kyle Bourgeois went the distance for the win for Effingham, allowing four unearned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out nine. Jason Kenter took the loss for Teutopolis, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits and six walks in 4-2/3 innings, striking out one batter. Carson Hartke pitched 1-2/3 innings, giving up five unearned runs on two hits and a walk while fanning three. John Kreke got the last two outs, allowing one hit and striking out a batter.

Zac Bateman had the big bat for Effingham, registering a double among his three hits. Bateman scored a run and drove home two runs. Bourgeois singled home two runs, Bryar Jansen singled and scored, Blake White singled and walked and scored twice, Reid Kocher singled and walked and drove in a run, Lane Koenig walked and scored twice, Tyler Zuber walked twice and scored a run, Colby Utz drove in a run, Brandon Puckett walked twice, and Ethan Greene reached base and scored a run.

Effingham Post #120 stands at 10-4 on the season.
