With temperatures expected to reach or exceed 100 degrees this weekend, Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Executive Director Craig Anderson announced schedule changes to the IHSA Class 3A and Class 4A Baseball and Softball State Finals for Friday, June 10.
The softball finals will take place at the Eastside Centre in East Peoria, while Silver Cross Field in Joliet is the home of the baseball championships. Game times have been adjusted from the original schedule at both sites to prevent playing during the hottest hours of the day. The new Friday game times for both sites are listed below:

“These are some of the hottest expected temperatures that anyone can recall for our baseball and softball tournaments,” said IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson. “Our motto is Play Smart. Play Hard., so I think it is common sense to take these precautions for the safety of the student-athletes, coaches, umpires and fans.”
In addition to the schedule changes, IHSA staff members have been working with tournament host staffs and Certified Athletic Trainers to develop heat precaution measures at both sites that will include more tents for sun cover, icing stations and cooling fans.
Play Smart. Play Hard. is a player safety initiative established by the IHSA in 2015 aimed at empowering student-athletes, parents, coaches and fans to educate themselves on player safety issues and the steps that have been taken in Illinois to protect student-athletes. IHSA staff and host personnel will continue to assess the weather related to any schedule changes on Saturday.
