Effingham Post 120 Takes DH Win, Altamont Wins Junior Legion Games

Effingham Senior Legion Post 120 picked up a doubleheader victory over Robinson Post 69A in action Sunday at Paul Smith Field.
Effingham's Michael Woltman and Bryar Jansen each went two-for-two with a single and double. Jansen added an RBI. Lane Koenig picked up two singles.
Kyle Bourgeois kept Robinson off the scoreboard for all seven innings on the mound. He pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on four hits while striking out three.
Effingham never trailed after scoring one run in the first on an RBI single by Drew Gibson. Effingham tacked on another two runs in the third. A clutch hit into a fielder's choice scored Woltman to open the scoring in the frame. That was followed by Jansen's double, scoring Gibson.
In the second contest, Robinson Post 69A jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. But Effingham came back with a four-run third and tacked on three more in the fourth and two in the sixth.
A two-run error and a two-run single by Zach Bateman scored the four runs in the third. Post 120 added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. A ground out scored Reed Schafer. That was followed up by Brandon Puckett's single, scoring Colby Utz. Effingham piled on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Nick Miller started the inning with a single bringing home Utz. That was followed up by Jansen's single, plating Miller.
The Seniors are now 4-0 on the season.

Altamont nabbed a Junior Legion victory over Shelby County Posts 289-611-725 in action Sunday, 9-1.
Altamont took a 4-0 lead in the second and never looked back. Altamont had 10 hits in the contest led by Kline with two doubles and two RBI, Whitt with a double, triple and an RBI and Kuhlman with three singles and an RBI.
Shelby County was led by Beck with a solo home run.
In the second game, Altamont came back from a 7-4 deficit to tally seven runs in the bottom of the fifth and finish out by edging Flora 11-10. Flora scored three in the top of the seventh.
Grove had two singles, a triple and three RBI for the winners. Kuhlman added a single, double and an RBI and Pemberton a double. Pemberton pitched the victory, going 2.2 innings, allowing six hits, two walks and striking out two.

Flora bounced Shelby County Legion Posts 289-611-725. Flora stepped out to a 5-1 first inning lead and held an 8-1 lead after two and tallied four more in the sixth.
Flora had 12 hits in the contest led by Trevor Nicholson with a double, home run and two RBI.
Shelby County was led by Hutson Dickens with two singles and an RBI.
