Effingham Post #120 Sweeps Pair from Shelby County Legion

Effingham Senior American Legion Post #120 swept a doubleheader from Shelby County Legion Friday by scores of 3-1 and 4-2.

In Game One, Effingham took a 1-0 lead in the first, but Shelby County tied the game 1-1 in the fourth. Effingham scored two runs in the sixth inning to claim the win. It was a well-pitched game on both sides, as the teams combined for seven hits.

Brandon Puckett went the first four innings for Effingham, allowing one earned run on three hits, walking eight but striking out four. Lane Koenig got the win in relief, working three shutout innings and allowing just one walk, no hits, while fanning four. Quinn Martz took the loss, going the distance and allowing just one earned run on four hits, walking three and striking out six.

In Game Two, Effingham Post #120 scored a run in the second inning, added two runs in the fourth and tacked on a run in the sixth. Shelby County scored their two runs in the seventh inning. Effingham pounded out eight hits, while Shelby County was held to three hits.

Nic Hutchinson pitched five innings for Shelby County, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits and did not walk a batter while fanning four. Klaiton Wolff pitched the final inning, allowing a run on one hit and one walk while posting one strikeout. 

Colby Utz went the distance for the win for Effingham, allowing the two runs on three hits, walking two and fanning two.
