The North Clay Cardinals saw their great Class 1A baseball season come to an end Monday at the Carbondale Super-Sectional.

The Cardinals fell to Goreville 12-1 in a five-inning contest.

North Clay actually took a 1-0 lead on a Collin Warren walk and a run-scoring triple by Quincy Aldrich. Goreville took over from that point, scoring their runs in each of the first four innings and holding North Clay hitless from that point until the fourth inning.

The Cardinals end their season at 19-11 with a sectional championship for the first time in school history.
