EHS Splits DH With Centralia

Effingham High School finished the regular portion of the baseball season with a split against Centralia in action Saturday.
The Hearts won the opener 5-3. The Orphans took a 1-0 first inning lead but EHS had a five-run second and that was all it took. Brent Beals went the distance giving up eight hits, one walk and striking out six.
Brett Koester had two singles and an RBI for the Hearts while Beals, Mason Hull and Hudson Graham all drove in a run each.
In the second game, Centralia broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run third then tacked on three more in the fifth. The Orphans then held off a final inning challenge by the Hearts for the 6-3 victory.
The Hearts outhit Centralia 9-7. Hull had a single and double while Lane Koenig added a double and Beals a double and an RBI. Reed Schafer had two singles.
The Hearts are now 20-10 on the season and will return to action in the Class 3A Herrin Regional Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. against the winner of the Herrin vs. Metropolis Massac County game that is being played today.
