South Central High School graduate Spencer Patton was recalled by the Chicago Cubs from Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Mark Gonzales of MLB.com reports.

The Cubs placed Neil Ramirez on the bereavement list Thursday, so Patton will come up to temporarily fill his roster spot. Ramirez will be required to miss at least three games, but no more than seven games, so it's likely that Patton's stay with the big league club will be short.

Patton, a righthander acquired from the Rangers last November for minor leaguer Frandy de la Rosa, has been pitching lights-out at Triple-A Iowa: 10 innings in 10 games, no runs allowed, just five hits and four walks allowed and 17 strikeouts. He's faced 40 batters and struck out almost half of them.

Patton pitched for the Cubs in spring training this year and didn't give up any runs in nine appearances covering eight innings. He struck out 12.
