White's RBI Single Gives Hearts Win over Hatchets; Other Friday Baseball

Blake White's RBI single in the 8th inning gave the Effingham Hearts a 3-2 win over the Windsor/Stew-Stras Hatchets Friday.

White's base hit off Josh Overbeck brought home Lane Koenig with the winning run.

Effingham took a 1-0 lead in the first. WSS scored twice in the top of the 5th to take a 2-1 lead, but the Hearts tied the game in the bottom of the inning. The contest remained tied until White's game-winner.

Ryan Barnes got the win in relief. Barnes pitched two perfect innings, fanning one batter. Ryan Sandifer started the game but was pulled after issuing three walks without retiring a batter. Mason Hull took over and pitched four solid innings, allowing one run on three hits while fanning three. Colby Utz pitched two innings, giving up a run on two hits.

Isaac Kramer pitched a solid game for the Hatchets, allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits and two walks in six innings of work, striking out three. Overbeck gave the one run, which was unearned on one hit in 1-1/3 innings.

SALEM 6, ST. ANTHONY 2

The Wildcats had a solid middle of the game to post the win. Salem scored twice in the second, once in the third, twice in the fourth, and once in the fifth, totaling nine hits on the day.

St. Anthony scored single runs in the second and sixth innings.

Drew Gibson took the loss for the Bulldogs, allowing six runs, but just two earned runs, on nine hits in six innings of work, walking one and fanning three. Brandon Puckett pitched a perfect seventh inning with one strikeout.

ALTAMONT 6, CUMBERLAND 0

Klaiton Wolff tossed a two-hit shutout and struck out 15 Pirate hitters in leading the Indians to the win, issuing two walks.

Wolff also helped at the plate with a double, single and walk, driving in two runs.

Altamont scored single runs in the first and second, added three runs in the fifth and added a run in the sixth.

Blayke Cutts had Cumberland's only two hits, both singles. 

Cutts took the loss, allowing two runs, one earned, on one hit and five walks, fanning three. Talley pitched the final three innings, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks, striking out four.
