Mattoon Beats T-town, Area Baseball Roundup

MATTOON -- Teutopolis High School ran into a Mattoon team that's been on a tear lately and dropped an 11-6 baseball decision Thursday.
The Green Wave edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then had a three-run second. T-town came back within 4-2 in the third but the Green Wave continued offensively, scoring four runs in the fourth. The Shoes again rallied to pull within 8-5 in the top of the fifth but Mattoon put away any hopes with a three-run bottom of the frame and went on for an 11-6 victory.
The Wooden Shoes had 12 hits led by Lane Belleville with two singles, a triple and two RBI, Austin Johnson with a home run and two RBI, Brock Bueker with a single and double, John Kreke two singles and an RBI and Kyle Smith with two singles.
Mattoon had 13 hits in the game led by Rappe with three singles, a double and three RBI and Courtney with three singles. The Green Wave picked up their third straight win and stands at 10-7 on the season.
T-town drops to 17-8 and will play host to Effingham Monday.

Newton blanked Robinson 12-0 in action Thursday.
The Eagles held a 3-0 first inning lead then broke the game wide open with an eight-run second and finished with a run in the fourth.
Mtich Jansen pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts. Mammoser had two singles and two RBI while Geier had two singles and an RBI, Grunloh a single, double and an RBI, Cohorst with a double and three RBI, Prater with a double and two RBI and Weber with a double.

Villa Grove/Broadlands claimed a 4-1 victory over Cumberland.
The two teams were tied at 1-1 after the first inning. Villa Grove then had a two-run third inning and tacked on a final run in the fifth.
Both teams had six hits. Kanizer had a single and double for Cumbrland while Cutts added a double.
