St. A Wins DH, EHS Drops Two, Baseball Roundup

MARSHALL -- Effingham St. Anthony defeated Marshall in a baseball doubleheader Saturday.

The Bulldogs won the opener 13-0 in six innings. St. Anthony had a seven-run second and banged out 12 hits in the contest.

Drew Gibson had two singles, a double and an RBI while Bryar Jasen hit a single and a grand slam home run. Adam Levitt had a single, home run and two RBI while Greg Utz had a single, triple and an RBIi and Ethan Greene two singles and an RBI.

Gibson pitched a one-hitter with one walk and three strikeouts.

In the second game, the Bulldogs leaped out to a 5-0 first inning lead and ended the game in the fifth inning, 14-1.

Jacob Guy pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts for the win. Hunter Stephens threw the final two innings allowing no hits and striking out three.

Colin Koester had a single and double while Ben Strullmyer had a single, double and an RBI and Luke Ludwig two singles and three RBI.

At Mount Zion

Effingham fell in an Apollo Conference doubleheader Saturday to Mount Zion.

The Braves won the opener 6-2. Mount Zion took a 2-0 lead in the third. EHS pulled within 2-1 in the top of the fifth but the Braves scored four more in the bottom of the frame.

Jonah Smith got the win for the Braves allowing two runs, eight hits, one walk and striking out four.

After pushing across one run in the top of the fifth, Effingham faced just a 2-1 deficit. An RBI double by Brent Beals triggered the Hearts' comeback. Smith ended the inning by getting Graham to ground out.

In the second contest, Mount Zion was sparked by Sammy Schultz and Andrew Auton who teamed up for two hits and four RBI.

The Braves took the early 2-0 lead then had a five-run third. EHS pulled within 7-5 in the fourth but the Hearts couldn't dent the plate again.

Lane Koenig and Reed Schafer had three singles each while Mason Hull had two singles and an RBI.

In junior varsity action, Effingham split wins. Mount Zion won the opener 3-2 but the Hearts came back for a 10-5 victory.

At Breese

Teutopolis split victories Saturday at Breese. The Wooden Shoes fell to Nashville 2-0 before downing Breese Central 15-5.

Nashville and the Wooden Shoes went five innings before the Hornets tallied two runs in the bottom of the sixth and that's all the scoring there was in the contest.

The Shoes had five hits led by John Kreke with two singles. Austin Johnson picked up the pitching loss on a four-hitter with two walks and six strikeouts.

In the game against Breese Central, T-town came out with a vengeance scoring eight runs in the first inning. The Shoes banged out 14 hits in the contest led by Austin Johnson with two doubles and two RBI, Brock Bueker with a single and double, Kyle Smith with a double and two RBI and Jason Kenter with a solo home run.

Neoga swept a doubleheader from visiting Flora Saturday.

The Indians won the opener 6-2 then came back with a 9-0 victory in the nightcap. Neoga took a 2-0 lead in the first game and tacked on three runs in the second.

The Indians had 11 hits in the contest led by Matt Kingery with three singles, a double and four RBI, Drew Ramert with a double and Trevor Easton with two singles.

In the second game, Neoga again took the early lead going out to 3-0 after two innings and blanking Flora. Guy Walk pitched the win, throwing a three-hitter with two walks and nine strikeouts.

Ramert had three singles and drove in a run while Caleb Hill had two singles and three RBI.

Neoga is now 13-7 on the season while Flora dropped to 14-7.

Argenta-Oreana came calling and claimed a non-conference doubleheader over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Saturday.

The Bombers won the opener 6-1, breaking a 1-1 tie after six innings with a four-run seventh.

The Hatchets had six hits in the game led by Collin Ohnesorge with a double and an RBI.

In the second game, Argenta-Oreana edged the Hatchets 3-2.

The Hatchets had four hits, all singles.
