Hearts Win By 10-Run Rule; Other Friday Scores

The Effingham Hearts made the most of nine hits, scoring 13 runs on their way to a 13-2 five-inning win Friday over the Casey-Westfield Warriors.

The Hearts actually found themselves down 2-0 after a half-inning, but got a run back in the bottom of the frame, and then scored six times each in the third and fourth innings to claim the win.

EHS scored the 13 runs without benefit of a home run. At the plate, leadoff man Brett Koester doubled, singled and walked and scored three runs. Michael Woltman reached on an error and scored; Brent Beals singled and reached on an error, scored twice and drove in two runs; Lane Koenig walked twice and was hit by a pitch and scored twice; Hudson Graham singled three times, scored twice and drove in three runs; Mason Hull tripled and singled, scored twice and drove in three runs; Blake White singled and walked, scored and drove in a run; Zac Bateman drove in a run; and Colby Utz drove in a run.

Koester got the win, pitching the first three innings, allowing two unearned runs on two hits and a walk and fanned seven. Utz pitched a perfect inning and struck out two. Ryan Barnes pitched the final inning, striking out the side around a walk.

WOODEN SHOES SPLIT TWO

Teutopolis bounced back from a 4-3 loss to Mt. Zion to post a 10-0 win over Robinson during two games played Friday.

Brock Bueker took the loss in Game One, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and three walks, fanning five.

At the plate for T-Town: Jason Roepke singled and scored; Devin Smith walked twice; Austin Johnson had a sacrifice; John Kreke singled and drove in a run; Kyle Smith singled and scored; Brock Bueker walked and scored; Carson Hartke walked; Jason Kenter singled and walked and drove in a run; and Tyler Westendorf had a sacrifice fly and drove in a run.

The Shoes took a 1-0 lead in the first, Mt. Zion scored two runs in the third and fifth to move ahead 4-1, and Teutopolis scored twice in the sixth, but fell a run short.

The game against Robinson was another story. The Shoes scored twice in the first, three times in the second, once in the third, and four times in the fourth to claim the five-inning win. 

Matt Koester pitched the win, allowing four hits and a walk while registering nine strikeouts, to improve to 3-0 this spring.

At the plate for T-Town: Jason Roepke walked, scored twice and drove in a run; Devin Smith singled three times, scored twice and drove in a run; Austin Johnson singled and walked and scored; John Kreke walked and scored and drove in a run; Kyle Smith doubled and scored; Mat Weber singled and walked, scored twice and drove in two runs; Lane Belleville singled twice and walked, scored and drove in a run; Tyler Westendorf doubled and singled and walked and drove in two runs.

The split gives the Wooden Shoes a 15-6 record on the spring.

DIETERICH 5, NEOGA 2

Dieterich scored all five of their runs in the third inning. Neoga scored single runs in the third and fifth.

Paul Thoele got the win for the Movin Maroons, allowing two unearned runs on four hits and two walks while fanning four. Nees took the loss for the Indians, allowing five runs, three earned, on five hits and four walks. Kingery pitched an inning, allowing a hit and walk against one strikeout. Fritcher pitched an inning, giving up a hit and a walk. Hoedebecke pitched the final inning, picking up a strikeout.

Neoga had four hits, singles by Hoedebecke, Ramert, Walk and Easton. Hoedebecke and Easton scored the Neoga runs; Ramert had the only RBI. Kingery and Easton each walked.

Dieterich got three singles from Paul Thoele and a run; Bryce McClain walked twice and scored; Charlie Thoele got a single and walked and scored; Callaway Campton singled and walked twice, scored and drove in a run; Ryan Radloff singled twice, scored and drove in two runs; Bryce Schmidt drove in a run; and Evan Bohnhoff walked.

CHARLESTON 8, WINDSOR/STEW-STRAS 0

It was a tough day for the Hatchets, picking up just one hit, a single by Josh Overbeck.

Tyler Kemper took the loss, allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits and two walks in 1-1/3 innings. Josh Overbeck gave up two runs, one earned, on three hits and two walks in 3-2/3 innings. Collin Ohnesorge pitched a perfect inning, with one strikeout.

MULBERRY GROVE 7, BROWNSTOWN/ST. ELMO 3

Mulberry Grove scored four times in the fifth and three more in the seventh to post the win. BSE took a 1-0 lead in the first and added two runs in the sixth.

Landon Feezel took the loss, allowing the seven runs on six hits and five walks in 6-1/3 innings, striking out 10.

At the plate for BSE: Nate Philpot, Landon Feezel, Noah Flowers, Wade Ireland and Dylan Brooks each singled, with Feezel and Ireland each driving in a run.

BSE is 9-11 on the spring.
