DECATUR -- Effingham St. Anthony trailed Decatur St. Teresa 3-2 after the first inning but the Bulldogs pushed it into high gear and went on to beat the homestanders 17-4 in six innings Wednesday.

Drew Gibson got the Bulldogs started off in the right direction with a lead-off double. With two outs, Ethan Greene drew a walk followed by back-to-back singles by Adam Levitt and Joe Kabbes.

The Bulldogs finished with 17 hits in the game. Ben Mendella had four hits and three RBI while Greg Utz had a single, double and drove in four runs. Kabbes had a single, double and three RBI. Levitt finished with two singles and an RBI and Kabbes two singles and three RBI.

Greene went five innings allowing nine hits, four runs, one walk and striking out eight for the win. Brandon Puckett came on in the sixth striking out two.

At Neoga

Neoga edged Oblong 4-3 to improve to 9-5 on the season.

The score was tied at 1-1 after the third inning. Neoga then had a big three-run second and held off a sixth-inning challenge by Oblong for the victory.

Drew Ramert had the lone extra base hit for the Bulldogs with a double. The rest were five singles by five different players.

Caleb Hill (2-2) was the winning pitcher going 5.1 innings, allowing four walks and three hits.

Brwonstown/St. Elmo trounced Sandoval 14-1 in six innings Wednesday.

BSE stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead then tallied four runs in the second, two more in the third and finished out with six in the sixth.

Nate Philpot was the winning pitcher on a two-hitter with four walks and 10 strikeouts.

Noah Flowers and Isaac Maxey had two singles each for the winners. Maxey had an RBI. Hunter Strauch had a double and an RBI and Cole Horner a double and two RBI.

BSE is now 5-9 on the season.

Okaw Valley blanked Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 10-0 in five innings Wednesday.

Okaw Valley took a 2-0 first inning lead then had three-run innings in the second and third and finished out with single runs in the fourth and fifth, ending the game via the 10-run rule.

Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick's lone hit came from Rexroad with a single.

Okaw Valley improves to 9-2 on the season.

Newton tallied a 7-3 victory over Olney Wednesday.

The Eagles held a 2-0 lead until the second when Olney scored and pushed ahead with a run in the third. But Newton tied the score in the fourth then scored four runs in the fifth.

Nate Meinhart had two singles for the winners while Connor Bierman had a triple and two RBI and Luke Geier a single and three RBI.

Newton is now 5-4 on the season.
