MOUNT VERNON -- Mason Hull pitched six innings, allowing five hits, no walks and three strikeouts but Effingham High School still fell to Mount Vernon 4-1 in baseball action Tuesday.

Quinton Kujawa got the win for the Rams. He allowed one run over six innings, struck out six, walked two and surrendered five hits.

The score was tied at 1-1 after the first inning before the Rams pushed ahead with two runs in the third. Mount Vernon tacked on a final run in the sixth.

In the first inning, Effingham pushed across its only run of the day on an RBI single by Michael Woltman. Mount Vernon scored on a sacrifice fly by Blake Jones.

Both teams had five hits. EHS was led by Brent Beals with two singles and Woltman with two singles and an RBI.

Effingham won the junior varsity game, 9-3. Bryce Lohman hit a home run for the Hearts while Zach Lee got the pitching win.

At Flora

Flora claimed a 2-1 win over Effingham St. Anthony in action Tuesday.

The Bulldogs held a 1-0 first inning lead. Flora came back in the bottom of the seventh to rally for two runs and the victory.

St. Anthony had five hits led by Bryar Jansen with two singles. Greg Utz added a double.

At Brownstown

Neoga tallied a 10-6 victory over Brownstown/St. Elmo with a four-run eighth inning.

The two teams were tied at 6-6, sending the game into the extra inning. Jordan Hoedebecke had the go-ahead single and Matt Kingery followed with a three-run home run.

"There were four straight two-out base hits in the eighth inning starting with Jimmy Wood and Layne Andrews followed by the hits by Hoedebecke and Kingery," said Neoga Coach Zach Miller. "Layne hit his fourth single of the day."

Neoga improves to 3-5 on the season.

Lewis Brown led BSE with a single, double and an RBI and Noah Flowers had a home run and an RBI. BSE drops to 1-5.

North Clay (Louisville) and Dieterich were tied at 1-1 after four innings. The Movin' Maroons moved ahead with a run in the fifth then tacked on a final run in the sixth for a 3-1 victory.

Goedde and Campton had two singles each. Goedde had one RBI and Campton two RBI. Thoele had a double.

North Clay had three hits, all singles by Warren, Repking and Blank.

Altamont scored in the third and fourth innings on only one hit and blanked Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran 3-0 Tuesday.

N. Miller picked up the pitching win on a three-hitter with one walk and 10 strikeouts. Whitt had a double for the Indians' lone hit.

Britt was the first pitcher for CORL and threw a one-hitter with seven walks and three strikeouts. Young came on in the fourth inning and picked up the loss on a no-hitter with two strikeouts.

Odin took the early lead with a run in the first and went on to beat Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 7-2.

Hofsetter led the winners with two singles, a double and an RBI.

The Cougars edged out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning then had two-run innings in the fifth and sixth.

Geiler picked up the pitching win, going five innings, allowing two hits, three walks and striking out nine.

Ratermann had two singles. The Cougars improve to 1-1 on the season.
