Neoga, St. Anthony, Stew-Stras Win NTC Tourney Openers

Neoga, St. Anthony and Stewardson-Strasburg were opening round winners in the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament Monday. The game between Dieterich and South Central was postponed until today.

St. Anthony 9, St. Elmo 1

The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the second inning then tallied three more in the third and had single runs in the fourth and fifth and finished out with two in the sixth. St. Elmo's lone run came in the fourth.

Ben Hecht pitched a two-hitter with two walks and seven strikeouts to improve to 4-1. N. Williams had a single and a double for the winners while J. Lorenz had two singles.

St. Anthony improves to 16-3 and will now face Stewardson-Strasburg Wednesday at 4 p.m. St. Elmo drops to 8-10 and will compete in the consolation bracket against Windsor.

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg edged Windsor 3-2 to advance in the NTC Tourney.

The Comets trailed Windsor 2-1 until the fifth then tied the score at 2-2. The Comets scored the winning run in the sixth. Christian Vonderheide (4-0) pitched the five-hit victory allowing only one walk and striking out a whopping 13.

Stew-Stras improves to 11-5 and will meet St. Anthony at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

At Altamont

Neoga edged Altamont 4-3 to advance in the NTC Tourney. Altamont tallied single runs in the first, second and third innings for a 3-0 lead and held that until the sixth.

Neoga brought home all four runs in the sixth to pull out the win. Neoga had six hits in the contest. Walk had two singles and an RBI. Altamont was led by Delaney with a single, double and an RBI and Finn with two singles and an RBI.

Neoga improves to 7-9-1 and will face either South Central or Dieterich Wednesday in a 4 p.m. contest. Altamont drops into the consolation bracket and will face the loser of the South Central/Dieterich game at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
