Jasper County Wins State Title

EAST PEORIA -- Jasper County claimed the Class 2A State Baseball Tournament championship Saturday at Eastside Centre in East Peoria.
Jasper County edged Springfield Christ the King 4-3. Christ the King edged out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning and held a 2-1 lead in the second. Jasper County tied in the sixth then tallied two runs in the top of the eighth. Christ the King made a comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh scoring a run but fell short.
Mitch Jansen led Jasper County with two hits. Collin Harris and Tim Weber had a hit and an RBI each. Lucas Geier had a double and an RBI.
In the championship game, Jasper County blasted Stronghurst West Central 18-0. Jasper County had a seven-run inning in the second and third and finished out with four in the fourth. Weber picked up the pitching win, throwing four innings allowing two hits, two walks and striking out four.
Jasper County had 17 hits in the game led by Geier with three singles and three RBI and Mitch Bierman with a double and an RBI. Geier picked up the pitching win on a three-hitter with one walk and three strikeouts.
In the third place game, Springfield Christ the King beat Downs Tri-Valley 10-7.
