Altamont, St. Anthony To Play For NTC Baseball Tourney Title

Altamont and Effingham St. Anthony will be playing for the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament championship after both picked up victories Wednesday evening.

Altamont bounced South Central 12-1 in five innings via the 10-run rule. The Indians stepped out to a 4-0 first inning lead. Nick Miller drew a walk to start the contest and Caden Miller followed with a double. Klaiton Wolff drew a walk. Devon Guerrettez punched in a run with a ground out. Brandon Hosick then doubled home a run.

In the second, Altamont went ahead 6-0. Jake Finn drew a walk and Kolby Pemberton doubled him home. C. Miller singled home the second run.

South Central scored a run in the top of the fourth on a single by Dre Hill and an RBI double from Ryan Matheny.

But the Indians came back with two in the fourth and four more in the fifth on six hits, a walk and an error. C. Miller finished with three singles, a double and two RBI while Hosick had two singles, a double and two RBI.

St. Anthony 12, Brownstown/St. Elmo 2

Effingham St. Anthony ended its game, also by the 10-run rule, in the sixth inning as the Bulldogs trounced Brownstown/St. Elmo 12-2.

St. Anthony edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then tacked on another run in the second. The Bulldogs had a four-run third, two more in the fourth and finished out with four in the sixth.

Brandon Puckett picked up the pitching win. He allowed three hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.

Bryar Jansen had two singles while Greg Utz had a single and double. Will Clausius chipped in with a double.

Dieterich 6, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 5

Dieterich edged WSS after a comeback by the Hatchets fell short in the bottom of the seventh.

The Maroons tallied three runs in the top of the second but WSS came back within 3-2 in the bottom of the frame. The Maroons pushed ahead 4-2 in the fifth and 6-2 in the sixth. Windsor/Stew-Stras scored three in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't overcome the four-run deficit.

Dieterich was led by McClain and Campton with two singles each. Thoele had a single and two RBI.

WSS was led by Hutchinson with three singles, Moschenrose with two singles and two RBI, Thies with two singles and an RBI and Ohnesorge with two singles as the Hatchets outhit Dieterich 11-8.

North Clay handed BCCH the loss to move into the consolation championship. No statistics were reported.

 

Schedule

Altamont and St. Anthony will now meet for the championship at 7 p.m. Friday at Paul Smith Field.

The third place contest, featuring South Central and Brownstown/St. Elmo will be held before the title contest at 4:15 p.m.

The consolation championship, featuring North Clay and Dieterich, will be at 4:15 p.m. at Evergreen Hollow Park.
