Junior High Baseball Sectionals -- Saturday

Effingham St. Anthony and Teutopolis junior high schools advanced to state competition in baseball Saturday after claiming sectional championships.

St. Anthony blanked Dieterich 12-0 in the Class 1A Findlay Okaw Valley Sectional. The Bullpups stepped out to a 4-0 first inning lead then tacked on five in the sixth and three more in the seventh.

St. Anthony had 11 hits in the game led by Gavin Braunecker with a single, triple and two RBI, Kennan Walsh with two singles and two RBI, Davis Tingley with a double and an RBI, Aaron Webb with two singles and an RBI, Eli Moore with two singles and three RBI and Reilly Ashton with a double.

Dieterich was led by Niebrugge with a single and double.

The Bullpups (16-3) advance to the Class 1A State Tournament at Eastside Centre in East Peoria Friday at 2 p.m. to take on Normal Metcalf (12-4).

Teutopolis claimed a 5-1 win over Shelbyville Moulton at the Class 2A Teutopolis Sectional Saturday.

Shelbyville Moulton edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead in the top of the second. But T-town came back with two runs in the bottom of the frame then tacked on two in the third and one in the sixth.

Ungrund had a single, double and an RBI for the winners while Deters had two singles and two RBI. Hardiek picked up the pitching win on a two-hitter with one walk and eight strikeouts.

The Shoes advance to the Class 2A State Tournament Friday with an 18-0 record. They will take on St. Joseph (14-2) at 4:30 p.m.

At Centralia

Altamont Lutheran will take on Field at 3 p.m. today for the championship of the SIJHSAA Altamont Lutheran Co-op Regional at Centralia's Rotary  Park.

Altamont Lutheran downed Patoka 3-2 Saturday while Field was a 6-1 winner over Rome. Altamont Lutheran had beaten Central City Wednesday while Field had take a 7-1 win over Odin.
