BCCH Picks Up Victory; Area Roundup

VANDALIA -- Beecher City-Cowden/Herrick handed Mulberry Grove a 7-2 loss in the opening round of the Egyptian-Illini Conference Tournament Monday.

BCCH took a 2-0 first inning lead then tacked on a single run in the third and four in the sixth. Mulberry Grove's runs came in the top of the seventh.

Blake McKay picked up the pitching win on five-hitter with one walk and eight strikeouts. McKay aided his own cause with two singles, a double and two RBI. Donovan Riley added three singles while A.J. Miller and Joel Wheeler had two singles and an RBI each.

BCCH is now 3-10 and back in semifinal tourney action today at 4:15 p.m.

Brownstown was a 14-4 winner over Ramsey.

Dieterich 4, Cisne 3

Cisne led 2-0 until the third inning when Dieterich tallied a run. The Movin' Maroons then took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Cisne knotted the score in the top of the sixth. Dieterich pulled out the win with a run in the eighth.

Tanner Traub had a single, double and an RBI for the winners while Alex Bohnhoff and Trenton Poe had two singles each. Bohnhoff drove in a run. Chris Lidy added a triple and an RBI. Bohnhoff picked up the pitching win allowing six hits, no walks and seven strikeouts.

Stewardson-Strasburg picked up two victories over St. Elmo. Stew-Stras won a suspended game 1-0 when the winning run scored with one out. Ohnesorge hit a ground ball to the second baseman who then threw home attempting to get the runner, but he was safe at the plate.

In the second contest, Stew-Stras trailed 4-3 after two innings but tallied two in the third. St. Elmo tied in the top of the sixth but Stew-Stras came back in the bottom of the frame to tally three and pull out an 8-5 win.

Stew-Stras had eight hits in the contest led by Theis with a single and a double. St. Elmo had nine hits led by Beasley with a double, home run and two RBI and Parks and Bartels with a double each. Bartels had an RBI.

St. Elmo drops to 6-7 overall and 3-5 in the National Trail Conference.
