Effingham High School graduate, Chad Green, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Erie SeaWolves, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 24-30.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound hurler started two games for the SeaWolves last week and had a record of 1-0 with 14 strikeouts and a 0.69 ERA. Green made his first start of the week Tuesday night in the opening game of a doubleheader at Binghamton and pitched a complete game in Erie's 5-1 victory. He scattered seven hits and struck out eight batters without allowing a walk over seven innings.
Green gave up six hits and struck out five batters over six shutout innings in his second start of the week Sunday afternoon against the visiting Harrisburg Senators, taking a no-decision in Erie's 4-3 loss.
The 24-year-old was the only pitcher in the Eastern League that pitched a complete game last week and he also led the league in strikeouts (14). He also ranked among the weekly leaders in wins (1-tied 3rd), innings pitched (3.0-tied 4th), ERA (0.69-tied 7th) and WHIP (0.92-10th).
Green, who currently ranks third in the league with 129 strikeouts and has a 4.10 ERA in 26 starts with Erie this season, was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 11th round of the 2013 draft out of the University of Louisville.
