T-town Wins Wooden Bat Classic, St. A Second

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School captured its own Wooden Bat Baseball Classic Saturday by defeating Effingham St. Anthony 6-3 in the title contest.
T-town edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead, tacked on four in the second and one more in the fifth. St. Anthony scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth.
The Wooden Shoes were led in the hitting department by Jacob Roepke with two singles, a double and two RBI, Cody Jansen with two singles and B. Bueker with two singles and two RBI.
St. Anthony was led by Adam Levitt with a double and an RBI and Drew Gibson with two singles.
In the third place contest, Dieterich defeated North Clay (Louisville) 7-5. The Maroons stepped out to a 1-0 first inning lead then tacked on three in the second and went on to hold off the Cardinals.
Goedde had three singles, a double and two RBI for the Maroons while Poe added three singles and four RBI.
North Clay was led by Aldrich with a single, triple and two RBI and VanDyke with a triple and an RBI.
In the opening two games, T-town downed Dieterich 11-1 behind 12 hits and the one-hit pitching of Kyle Smith. Smith had two strikeouts.
John Kreke had a single, two doubles and five RBI for the winners while Lane Belleville had a double, triple and two RBI. Poe had the lone hit for Dieterich with a single.
St. Anthony defeated North Clay 10-1. Breaking a 1-1 opening inning tie with four runs in the second, the Bulldogs tallied three more in the third and single runs in the fifth and seventh.
Levitt pitched a five-hitter with three walks and 12 strikeouts. Bryar Jansen had three singles and two RBI while Drew Gibson added a single, triple and three RBI.
