Effingham Junior High School played host to Centralia and claimed an 11-8 baseball victory Monday.

The Mustangs banged out 12 hits in the game and stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead. Kalber had two triples and an RBI while Niebrugge had a single, triple and three RBI. Donsbach added two doubles and an RBI and Siner three singles and an RBI.

Effingham is now 1-1 on the season and will return to action Thursday at St. Anthony. The Mustangs lost to Teutopolis Saturday that broke a 13-game conference winning streak which dated back to 2011.

At Effingham

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony trailed Shelbyville 1-0 in the top of the second but came back to score two runs in the bottom of the frame. Shelbyville regained the lead in the top of the third 3-2 but the Bullpups dented the plate six times in the bottom of the third and went on for a 13-4 win.

The Bullpups had nine hits led by Tingley with two singles and two RBI, Webb with two singles and an RBI, Braunecker with a triple and three RBI and Walsh with a single, double and an RBI.

Beck had a single, home run and two RBI for Shelbyville.

At St. Anthony

Neoga's bats were roaring in a 16-1 win over Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor Monday.

Neoga had a total of 19 hits while Moore was pitching a one-hitter with three walks and 10 strikeouts. Lacy had four hits and three RBI while Roy had three hits and two RBI, Johnson three hits and one RBI, Moore two hits and two RBI, Banning two hits and three RBI and Vaughn two hits and two RBI.

Dieterich edged North Clay (Louisville) 11-10. Dieterich took the early 1-0 lead then tacked on two in the third and one in the fourth. Dieterich held a 9-7 lead going into the final inning and tallied two. North Clay came back with three runs in the bottom of the frame, only to fall short.

Dieterich had 11 hits in the contest led by Hunzinger with two singles, a double and an RBI and Hartke with three singles and an RBI.

North Clay was led by Clifton with a single, double and three RBI, Bible with three singles and three RBI, Jones with two singles and an RBI and McCary with two singles and an RBI.

At Louisville

Teutopolis trailed Greenville 5-2 after two innings but tied the score in the top of the third then had big innings the rest of the way for a 20-7 victory.

Mitch Hardiek had a double, triple and four RBI while Brady McMahon had three singles and three RBI. Jacob Sarchet added a single, double and two RBI.

In a B contest, Teutopolis lost to Newton St. Thomas 10-2.

Altamont edged out to a 2-1 lead then had an eight-run second and went on to claim a 14-1 victory over Mulberry Grove.

Altamont had 13 hits led by C. Reardon with two singles and two RBI, Kollmann with a single, double and two RBI, Brewer with a single, double and two RBI and Thompson with two singles.

Altamont's Opening Day Tournament was held Saturday and the squad captured second place. Altamont blanked Dieterich 2-0 then fell to Jasper County 8-1 and won over Brownstown/St. Elmo 11-0. Altamont is now 3-1 on the seaosn.
